Qualified ESOL (English as a Second Language) Teacher

Rainbow Haven are looking for an ESOL-qualified English teacher to start soon, ideally with a handover on Wednesday 2nd April, teaching our complete beginner class (pre-entry level).

Sessions are Wednesdays 10-12. Classes are capped at 16 students, but are currently smaller. We have a digital course you can follow, but are open to other teaching methods.

Come join us at Rainbow Haven!

Our English class teachers join our busy, friendly team of volunteers at Rainbow Haven, a drop-in centre for refugees, people seeking asylum, and other migrants struggling due to the immigration system. You will be supported by the Activities and Volunteer Coordinator and the Activities Support Worker. We are a supportive community setting, and that very much includes our volunteers - come and meet new people and become part of our community!

We can offer a tasty hot lunch after class, expenses up to £5 per day where needed, and support to access training for your role and/or personal development.

Essential:

  • A recognised ESOL teaching qualification - teachers have full autonomy over their class content, adapting it to their cohort of learners.
  • You will need to be comfortable working with people from different cultures, as you will be teaching adults from all over the world.
  • Patience and understanding - this is a friendly community class aimed at complete beginners to English, many of whom are at a difficult stage in their lives, and struggle to access other classes or college.

Desirable

  • Experience teaching in a similar role - although this is a good opportunity for someone newly qualified and keen to get stuck in, or who hasn't taught for a while and wants to refresh their skills.

How to apply

Please get in touch by emailing kati@rainbowhaven.org.uk for an application form, and let us know if you have any questions.

Based on the application form we will contact suitable candidates for an informal chat, and will invite the successful candidate to observe a lesson and for an induction (hopefully the same day) before they teach their first class.

Looking forward to hearing from you!
